History of KNDS Deutschland Mission Electronics
Ruggedized electronics since 1980
ATM Computer GmbH in Konstanz was founded in 1980 by AEG-TELEFUNKEN AG and Modular Computer Systems Inc. (USA) as a company specialising in process computers and real-time data processing. From the beginning, systems and electronics development for the defense sector was one of the main business areas.
ATM as part of the KMW Group
Krauss-Maffei Wegmann GmbH & Co. KG (KMW) of Munich acquired the systems and electronics development division in 2001 and has been running it as ATM ComputerSysteme GmbH ever since.
In 2015, Krauss-Maffei Wegmann GmbH & Co. KG itself merged with the French company NEXTER S. A. to form KNDS (KMW+NEXTER Defense Systems N.V.).
Uniform brand identity
KNDS, the merger of the German and French land defense systems providers Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and Nexter, is harmonizing its brand image in 2023. From this point onwards, KMW, Nexter and their subsidiaries operated exclusively under the KNDS brand.
ATM becomes KNDS Deutschland Mission Electronics GmbH
In 2024, ATM ComputerSysteme GmbH changed its name to KNDS Deutschland Mission Electronics GmbH.
