Resistance to impact and shock stress on components

Systems that are electrically operated must demonstrate their suitability for a variety of environmental conditions. Certain devices must prove the class of protection from external mechanical stresses provided by housings. This means that the device’s housing must be able to withstand a defined amount of energy without causing damage to the device or impairing its function. DIN EN 62262 “Degrees of protection provided by enclosures for electrical tools (equipment) against external mechanical stresses (IK Code) describes the test environment and the impact energy, for this purpose.

The components’ resistance to impact and shock stress is indicated by their IK code (impact rating). DIN EN 62262 describes eleven codes according to the impact energy that the housing (enclosure) withstands.

KNDS Deutschland Mission Electronics conducts this test for its products at the customer’s request. Displays and panel PCs are tested up to an impact rating of IK08.
