DONAR artillery gun and key visual of the mobile fuze programming device

Programming of projectiles

Accurate setting of large-calibre fuzes

Inductive programming

For tactical or safety reasons, an artillery fuze may only be armed at a particular distance and timespan away from the launch tube or storage location of the projectile. For this purpose, KNDS Deutschland Mission Electronics and KNDS Deutschland together developed both a stationary and a highly mobile solution for the inductive programming of large-calibre artillery fuzes.

Focus on safe handling

This course of action ensures that ammunition does not explode unplanned due to improper handling or other external influences during operations. At the same time, it is ensured that data is transmitted quickly and securely during rapid fire. For this purpose, the unit provides a software environment for the programming application.

Performance overview:

  • Inductive programming of munitions
  • Communication according to STANAG 4369
  • Data transmission according to AOP 22
  • Supports customer-specific programming applications
  • Supports customer-specific UI applications
  • Functional safety according to DIN EN 61508

The plus points

Maximum safety when arming the projectile

On-board voltage network

KNDS Deutschland Mission Electronics ensures smooth operation on the vehicle’s electrical system through the consistent application of VG96916. This standard guarantees that the device harmonises with the power supply system, does not negatively influence the system or take damage itself.

Qualification

The device keeps out water and dust, withstands salt fog, holds up to fluctuating pressures and the extended temperature range, and reliably processes data under heavy shocks and vibrations.

Climate

The mobile device is also qualified against thermal shock in air and water and meets the AECTP requirements for climate zones.

EMC

An aluminium housing and special design ensure EMC compatibility. KNDS Deutschland Mission Electronics applies various civil norms and standards as well as MIL-SPECS for this purpose.

NEMP

The device is protected from electromagnetic pulses and functions reliably.

Security

If the solutions fulfil safety-critical functions, ATM applies the corresponding standards, such as DIN EN IEC 61508.

Modularity

The device can be adapted to meet the customer’s requests and requirements in every respect, from the interfaces and memory to customer-specific functionalities.

Display

Various technical and design measures ensure that the information on the display can be read and the display operated under any light conditions, even with night vision goggles.

Functions

In the fixed version, the unit supports the programming of artillery fuzes within an automated process controlled by the fire control computer system. The portable unit for programming fuzes has a colour display with touch input and function keys which the operator uses to enter the data.
